About Terwilliger Hot Springs
Terwilliger (commonly called Cougar Hot Springs) is a set of 5-6 terraced pools cascading down a hillside under old-growth Douglas fir and western red cedar east of Eugene. The top pool runs about 112°F; each pool below gets progressively cooler down to around 85°F at the bottom, so you can pick your temperature. Water is clear with a slight green tint and mild mineral scent.

From Eugene, take Highway 126 East about 50 miles toward Blue River. About 4 miles past Blue River, turn right onto Aufderheide National Scenic Byway (Forest Road 19) and continue south 7.5 miles to the signed trailhead on the right, near the Cougar Reservoir crossing. Pay $7/person at the self-pay station (Northwest Forest Pass not accepted). Trail is 0.25 miles to the springs. Drive from Eugene is about 1.5 hours.
Best Time to Visit
June through September for the best weather, though crowds peak then too. Spring and fall have fewer visitors and cooler air that pairs well with the hot pools. Winter access depends on snow conditions on Forest Road 19.
