About Sacajawea Hot Springs

Sacajawea Hot Springs sits along Warm Springs Creek in the Sawtooth Wilderness, about 2.5 miles up the trail from Grandjean Trailhead. Multiple geothermal sources feed into the creek, creating a spread-out chain of pools at different temperatures. The upper source runs very hot (145F), but most soaking pools settle into the 100-115F range where creek water mixes in.

From Boise, drive north on Highway 21 about 80 miles to the Grandjean turnoff. Turn right onto Forest Road 524 and follow it 6 miles to Grandjean Trailhead. The road is unpaved and rough; high-clearance recommended. From the trailhead, take Warm Springs Creek Trail (Trail 098) 2.5 miles to the springs. Moderate elevation gain with one or two creek crossings that can be tricky during high water. Watch for the springs on the left side of the creek.

Best Time to Visit

Mid-July through September for dry trails and manageable creek crossings. The access road and trail are typically snowed in from late October through June.
