Drive-up hot springs right along the South Fork of the Payette River near Lowman. Rock-lined pools sit steps from highway pullouts on the Banks-Lowman Highway, with thermal water seeping up at 100-120F and mixing with cold river water. You can adjust pool temps by shifting rocks to control the river flow into each basin.

From Boise, drive north on Highway 21 about 65 miles through Idaho City to Lowman. From Lowman, continue west on the Banks-Lowman Highway (Forest Road 24) about 5 miles. Springs are on the south side of the road along the South Fork Payette. Look for pullouts and parked cars. Pools are visible from the road. Short scramble down the riverbank. Pine Flats Campground is nearby as a landmark.
Best Time to Visit
August through October, when river levels drop and pools are fully accessible. Spring runoff (May-June) submerges most pools. Winter visits are possible if roads are clear.
